HLPFI is pleased to announce that Mammoet has won the Excellence in Engineering award at the Heavy Lift Awards 2020.
The judges were impressed with high level of engineering expertise demonstrated in all of our shortlisted entries, but Mammoet stood out from the competition. It has been recognised for the transport of the world’s largest lock doors from South Korea to the port of Amsterdam; they will replace the existing doors at the Northern Lock in IJmuiden, the Netherlands.
The sheer size of the three doors made this a unique project. Mammoet’s early involvement enabled the company to undertake considerable planning and provide custom solutions, including an unusual waterborne transportation, to overcome the project’s complex challenges.
The judging panel commented that the level of engineering needed to complete this particular multimodal project was of an exceptionally high standard.
One of the judges said that this entry would score very highly on just the deepsea work, but the local engineering also involved made this project truly impressive, going “above and beyond” the usual A to B shipment and making Mammoet a worthy winner of this prestigious award.
HLPFI would like to thank everyone that entered this year’s Excellence in Engineering award and say a massive well done to the other finalists in this category – Air Canada Cargo, Collett & Sons, FESCO and GPO Heavylift.
