Liebherr has broken ground at its new logistics centre in Tupelo, Mississippi, USA. Liebherr-Logistics is the in-house logistics services provider of Liebherr Group, serving more than 70 Liebherr sales and service companies around the world.
Located on a 74-acre (29.9-ha) plot on the Hive Business Park in Tupelo, once completed the warehouse will span an area of around 12 acres (4.9 ha). The machinery manufacturer has touted the idea of expanding or adding further buildings using the remaining 36 acres (14.6 ha).
With an initial investment of USD176 million, the site will aid Liebherr-Logistics in delivering logistics services for its customers in North and South America – something which the company has set out to do in a faster and more efficient manner.
It is estimated that it will create 180 new jobs for local people and, according to Liebherr, these figures could rise to USD230 million and upwards of 300 jobs.
The logistics centre will take on the logistics handling and will optimise delivery of spare parts and products from the earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes, and component segments. Other product segments will provisionally be added soon after the logistics centre is operating.
The centre is due for completion in Q4 2026, with first packages expected to be dispatched from there to customers early into the following year.
Last month, HLPFI reported that Turkish crane and heavy haulage company Aydıntaş added two of Liebherr’s LTM 1450-8.1 mobile cranes to its fleet.
