Finnish shipping company Langh Ship has taken delivery of the third and final 7,800 dwt multipurpose vessel in its newbuilding series, Sofia.
After a naming ceremony in Ningbo, China, Sofia has begun its journey towards Europe through Singapore Strait and around Africa. Like the sister vessels, the multipurpose unit is purposely built to carry the stainless steel coils that Outokumpu produces in Finland.
The liner service is established between Outokumpu factories in Tornio, Finland and Terneuzen in the Netherlands – with stainless steel going southbound, and raw materials, often recycled steel scrap, going back to north Finland to the steel mill. There will soon be six vessels from Langh Ship operating on the Outokumpu liner service.
The vessels were built at China’s Wuhu Shipyard as part of an order placed back in 2021. The second vessel in the series, Oliva, was named at the start of this year with the first, Lovisa, handed over to Langh Ship in November 2023.
