Andreas Enge, ceo of Höegh Autoliners, said: “Together with Maritime CleanTech, we hope to pick up the pace on our path to reaching zero. With a broad range of ammonia-related innovations taking place in the cluster, mutual interaction across the projects is essential.”

Ada Martine Jakobsen, ceo of Maritime CleanTech, added: “We need the frontrunners aiming for scaling the greener technologies for oceangoing vessels… we need to demonstrate new onboard technologies, as well as establish the production and distribution of green ammonia. That a global shipowner has chosen green ammonia as their future fuel is essential for the business cases in creating the new value chains.”

Höegh Autoliner’s headline decarbonisation effort is the development of its multi-fuel and ammonia-ready Aurora-class pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels. Featuring DNV’s new ammonia-ready notation makes the vessels will be first in the segment that are ready for carbon-neutral ammonia fuels, said Höegh.
