German shipping and logistics company Harren Group has an office in Lagos, Nigeria – its first office in Africa.
Harren Nigeria will be led by managing director Paul Okpurughre, who previously served as director business development and operations, Middle East and Africa, at Harren Group subsidiary SAL Heavy Lift.
He said: “The new office represents the entire Harren Group and serves as a basis for further business development in West Africa. We want to intensify the proximity to our customers and our business activities in the region.”
Dr. Martin Harren, ceo of the Harren Group, added: “Lagos is the perfect location for us – it’s a vibrant city and one of the main project and logistics capitals on the continent. The opening of the new office reflects our remarkably successful development in West Africa. We want to further expand our local position based on the existing, trustful relationships with our customers and partners.”
According to Jürgen Kuntz, senior manager chartering and projects and head of Africa chartering desk at SAL Heavy Lift, about three of the group’s ships sail to the region on a monthly basis. He said that the opening of the office “is the next logistical step” for it to develop its position.
“We see lots of opportunities for example in the energy and infrastructure segments,” added Kuntz.
The office will represent all the group’s affiliated companies, including the Jumbo-SAL-Alliance, Intermarine, Harren Bulkers, Harren Tankers, Atheleon and Combi Lift as commercial agent.
