India’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) signed a contract earlier this week with German shipping line Carsten Rehder for the construction of two 7,500 dwt multipurpose vessels.
The ships are the seventh and eighth in a series of newbuilds ordered at the Indian yard. The value of the total order is USD108 million.
Each vessel will be 120 m long and 17 m wide with a maximum draft of 6.75 m, and each will be able to carry 7,500 tonnes of cargo. Each vessel will have a single cargo hold to accommodate bulk, general and project cargoes, while containers will be carried on hatch covers. These ships have been specifically designed to carry multiple large wind turbine blades on deck.
HLPFI reported in June 2024 that Carsten Rehder placed an order for up to eight multipurpose shortsea vessels at the shipyard (four ships, plus four options).
