Great Lakes Towing Company (GLT) has acquired the Crimson Clover closed-deck barge and subsequently launched a breakbulk/ro-ro service linking Fernandina Beach, Florida and the Caribbean.
The 82 m x 24.4 m fully enclosed deck barge has been chartered to the newly created Great Lakes East (GLE). It will trade to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and on inducement to neighbouring islands and other ports in the Central Caribbean basin, Central America, and the north coast of South America.
GLE said it is taking orders for the barge’s maiden voyage, which is US-flagged and Jones Act compliant, and is scheduled to depart Fernandina on June 19.
