December 3 - The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) will host competition authorities from the United States, the European Union and China on December 17, 2013 in Washington DC, USA to discuss the P3 network.
The P3 network is a proposed long-term strategic alliance between three of the world's largest container lines - Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Co and CMA CGM - which together will operate a fleet of 225 ships on the major east-west trade lanes.
The FMC global regulatory summit will discuss issues related to the agreement including: carrier alliances; vessel sharing agreements; and the impact of operational agreements on international trade.
"We welcome the exchange of views with our regulatory counterparts. The shipping industry is dynamic as evidenced by the changing nature of agreements," explained FMC chairman Mario Cordero, adding, "The effects of these trends will have global implications that demand an international understanding of our changing industry."
