May 18 - Flinter Aland has been christened and launched at Shipyard Ferus Smit in Westerbroek.
This 11,000 tonne, multi-purpose, 1A ice-class vessel is being built for Flinter and was christened by Mrs Kornelia Engelken, spouse of Heinrich Engelken, the deputy chairman of Bremer Landesbank.
Flinter is a rapidly-growing Dutch shipping company with the head office in Barendrecht. Its activities include commercial management of a fleet of multi-purpose and container ships varying from 1,100 to 11,000 tonnes, which can carry all kinds of dry cargo.
In addition to planning, coordination and supervision, Flinter can provide all relevant services to other ship owners, including crew, technical and fleet management.
By the end of this year, Flinter says it will have a fleet of more than 50 vessels.
Flinter Aland is the fifth of five 11,000 ton vessels with final delivery planned in mid-June 2011.
