On behalf of Radiant Global Logistics, Air Partner chartered the Antonov AN-225 ‘Mriya’ for an around-the-world mission to deliver emergency supplies to the typhoon-hit island of Guam.
The flight was organised within hours as typhoon ‘Mangkhut’ was about to hit Guam.
The aircraft flew 13-hours non-stop from Ukraine to the USA, before transporting over 123,000 kg (123 tonnes) of aid from California’s Oakland International airport to Guam International airport, a total distance of more than 33,000 km.
This was the first visit of the AN-225 to the island.
The need to transport the maximum volume of cargo in the shortest possible time frame, coupled with its immediate availability, were all factors in Air Partner’s decision to charter the world’s largest aircraft.
Antonov adds that the aircraft’s ability to load and unload through its nose cargo ramp without any special ground infrastructure allows for the transport of a wide range of cargo with minimal notice, as well as enabling the operation to be carried out completely autonomously.
