Federal Nigara of the Fednav fleet has delivered several large pieces of import machinery to the Duluth Cargo Connect multimodal logistics hub on Lake Superior, USA.
In what is the first time in nine years, the season’s first oceangoing arrival to North America’s farthest inland seaport called at Duluth’s general cargo terminal, as opposed to one of the port’s six grain elevators.
After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Federal Nagara stopped briefly at Contrecoeur, Quebec, before continuing into the Great Lakes and crossing the Lake Superior on its way to Duluth, Minnesota.
Just over 24 hours after the vessel departed Duluth, the port welcomed a second oceangoing delivery of the season, as the Asian Spirit brought wind turbine blades and other pieces to the Duluth Cargo Connect facilities.
Next month, executive director of Duluth Seaway Port Authority Deb DeLuca will retire.
