The long-anticipated dredging programme on the River Elbe, Germany, has started.
The project will see a 116 km stretch of the river between Cuxhaven and Hamburg deepened to 14.5 m. This will allow vessels with a draught of 13.5 m to safely navigate the shipping channel, compared to 12.5 m at present.
Waterways and Shipping Administration Cuxhaven (WSA Cuxhaven) selected DEME Group subsidiaries Nordsee Nassbagger- und Tiefbau and Dredging International to complete the works.
