July 7 - DFDS has entered into an agreement with the Siem Group - which acquired Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) shipyard in 2014 - to bareboat charter two newbuild ro-ro ships for a five-year period.
As part of the agreement, DFDS has the option to purchase the ships at the end of the five-year period.
The two ro-ro vessels will be built by FSG, and are scheduled for delivery in May and September 2017. The 209.6 m long ships will each have a capacity of 4,076 lane metres - equal to around 262 trailers.
Both newbuildings are intended for deployment in DFDS' route network in the North Sea.
DFDS noted that the new ships will not only add more capacity to its fleet, but also increase its fuel efficiency and lower handling operations.
