October 3 - Damen Shiprepair Van Brink Rotterdam in the Netherlands has completed a three-week repair project on Jumbo's DP2 heavy lift crane vessel, Jumbo Javelin.

The repair job included the replacement of 15 box cooler frames - 12 of which were prefabricated prior to Jumbo Javelin's arrival at Van Brink and three of which were built during the repair period.

The majority of the steel work was performed by Damen and steel specialist Niron Staal Amsterdam.

Additional works to the ship included the modification of an existing tweendeck to make it more suitable for its purpose, as well as the repair and repositioning of the exhaust pipe stack. The lifeboats also underwent routine maintenance.

The 145 m long Jumbo Javelin was built at Damen Shipyards Galati in 2004, along with three similar vessels, Jumbo Jubilee, Fairplayer and Fairpartner.

As well as general heavy lift shipping assignments, the four ships are active in offshore oil and gas and wind energy projects, said Damen.

HLPFI understands that Jumbo plans to convert its heavy lift vessel Fairplayer with higher-capacity cranes and a larger deck of up to 4,500 sq m to allow it to install jackets, in addition to pre-piles and transition pieces.
