It is claimed that the ultra-wide model will enhance cargo handling, reduce damage, and lower operational costs.

Measuring 12.19 m x 3.4 m x 4.57 m, the flatrack container has been designed following a growing global demand for exporting construction machinery and vehicles. It has a folded height of 823 mm, and claims that overall weight is reduced by 16 percent as opposed to more conventional flat-rack containers.

Made with composite materials, the flatrack is lighter and more corrosion-resistant than traditional steel frames. COSCO suggests that this makes the container suited for environments where salinity and humidity are high.

COSCO also claims that the unit’s flexible loading configuration enhances cargo handling, reduces damage, and lowers operational costs. Meanwhile, it supports sustainability ambitions by reducing both material waste during operation along with maintenance demands.

Earlier this month, COSCO signed a contract to build a next-generation 70,000 dwt DP2 semi-submersible vessel.
