February -17- The office organisation and13 heavy lift ships of Jumbo Shipping have achieved certification to the internationally recognised Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS 18001).
Created from the British Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems BS8800, the OHSAS 18001 system is geared toward reducing and preventing accidents and accident-related loss of lives, time, and resources.
Certification was achieved after Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance audited the Rotterdam office and four ships, with good results, under the line's StayWell safety awareness programme. Since implementation of the StayWell programme, accidents have noticeably fallen during 2008, with both the lost time incident frequency and total recordable case frequency figures halving.
