The Port Authority of Bilbao in Spain and the USA’s Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to increase cooperation.
As part of the MoU, the parties will explore the development of trade relations between the two regions and pool knowledge, particularly in areas such as sustainability, connectivity and innovation.
Trade between Bilbao and the Great Lakes region amounted to around 90,000 tonnes of goods in 2023, with the main traffic including iron and steel products, machinery and spare parts, chemical products, wine, spirits and alcohol, other minerals, construction materials and foodstuffs, amongst others.
