June 25 - Netherlands headquartered BigLift Shipping has named its brand new heavy lift vessel Happy Sky at a ceremony in Zhangzhou, China.
The ceremony took place at Dutch lifting, drilling and subsea equipment manufacturer Huisman's new Chinese quayside, which was officially opened at the same time.
The 18,680 dwt Happy Sky is the latest addition to the BigLift Shipping fleet, which now consists of 14 vessels. Built by Larsen & Toubro in India, she features two 900 tonne heavy lift mast cranes, built by Huisman and commissioned by Huisman China.
Happy Sky is 155 m long and the forward position of the superstructure allows for a single, large cargo hold and wide deck. The vessel comes equipped with folding hatch covers, a large poop deck and cargo rails that make the vessel's whole deck available for stowing cargo. It also features an adjustable tween deck. Happy Sky is allowed to sail with open weather deck hatches at a draught of up to 7.5 m. Happy Sky has Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice Class notation and a service speed of 17 kn.
Happy Sky is the first of two S Class vessels to be added to the BigLift fleet, with Happy Star set to be commissioned during early 2014.
