Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) installed a 4,200-tonnne substation topside at the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm off the German coast in the Baltic Sea.
Spanish energy company Iberdrola Renewables is developing the Baltic Eagle project. HMC called on its installation vessel Thalif to perform its share of the works.
Van Oord was awarded a contract for the transport and installation of the foundations as well as the supply, transport and installation of interconnection cables, said Iberdrola Renewables. The Dutch company will deploy its 8,000-tonne heavy lift installation vessel, Svanen, to install 50 monopiles measuring between 75-90 m in length (max. weight 1,402 tonnes). Load out is expected to begin in April 2023.
Vestas Offshore Wind is supplying 9 MW turbines for the project, which should be delivered and installed by 2024. When complete, the offshore wind farm will have an installed capacity of 476 MW.
