Global energy and marine consultancy firm ABL has been awarded a contract to provide marine advisory and marine warranty survey (MWS) services to the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) development in Canada.
REEF, a joint venture (JV) between AltaGas and Royal Vopak, is a large-scale LPG and bulk liquids terminal with rail, logistics and marine infrastructure on Ridley Island, British Columbia, Canada.
ABL will be responsible for marine advisory and MWS for the transport of critical and heavy project cargo, from both international and domestic suppliers.
Initially, ABL will advise on commercial and technical bid evaluations, along with engineering design support. During the execution phase, ABL’s services will include independent third-party engineering review, vessel inspection, and site representation during cargo handling and transport from overseas fabrication locations to Canada.
ABL’s involvement has already begun and will continue until the first quarter of 2026. However, no contract value has been disclosed. The company’s operation in Canada will head up the project, with assistance from its offices in the USA and China.
“The REEF project will receive critical equipment from several corners of the world. Our job is to help make sure it arrives safely on site. Our global office network of marine transportation specialists will play a key role in achieving this,” said David Ballands, ABL’s director of energy services in the Americas region.
In July 2024, HLPFI reported on ABL’s involvement in an LNG development in the Republic of Congo.
