Sarens contributes to one of Vietnam’s most significant infrastructure projects
Sarens is proud to have contributed to one of Vietnam’s most significant infrastructure projects: the construction of Long Thanh International Airport. This vital project aims to alleviate congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, improve urban traffic flow, and position Vietnam as a major transit hub for international flights.
Sarens was selected for this project due to its extensive experience in heavy lifting and engineered transport. The company provided technical consultancy and equipment for the erection of steel structures at the airport’s central areas. The project required two crawler cranes:
- Demag CC6800 (1.250T) – Configuration: SWSL 66+96m
- Liebherr LR1750 (750T) – Configuration: SDWB 63+91m
The client, ATAD Steel Structure Corporation, entrusted Sarens with providing safe, efficient, and high-quality lifting operations, ensuring the project met its strict timelines.
Transporting the cranes to the job site was a logistical challenge due to long distances and the number of trips required:
- The CC6800 traveled 1.100km from the Quang Trach 1 site, taking 10 days to transport and 8 days to set up all during the festive period of the Lunar New year in Vietnam.
- The LR1750 was transported from Phu My – Vung Tau, covering a shorter distance in 5 days, with a 7-day setup.
Each crane required 40-45 trailer-truck trips to be fully transported.
The lifting scope involved installing large steel structures at heights of up to 40 metres, with weights reaching 80 tons and a radius of up to 120 metres. Due to the narrow working areas and presence of multiple subcontractors, the project faced significant coordination challenges. Despite these constraints, Sarens’ well-maintained equipment operated smoothly and efficiently.
The cranes were rigged under tight schedules, requiring careful planning and execution. Sarens deployed six crew members, working alongside 10 client personnel to execute the lifts.
Sarens worked closely with the equipment manufacturers, ensuring optimal crane configuration and rigging plans. The after-sales support from the manufacturers was highly effective, contributing to the seamless execution of the project.
One of the proudest moments for the Sarens team came in February 2025, when H.E. Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of Vietnam, visited the Long Thanh International Airport Project. During his visit, he personally extended his encouragement to Sarens employees on-site, recognizing their contributions to this landmark infrastructure development.
The cranes are expected to remain on-site for at least five months, assisting in the construction of one of Southeast Asia’s most ambitious aviation projects.
According to Mr. Truong Nguyen Hoang Tien, Country Manager of Vietnam at Sarens, “This project highlights our expertise in providing safe and reliable heavy lifting solutions for large-scale infrastructure developments. Despite the challenges, our team’s commitment and technical capabilities ensured smooth execution.”
Sarens is honored to play a role in shaping Vietnam’s aviation future and remains committed to delivering world-class heavy lifting and engineered transport solutions for the region’s most critical infrastructure projects.
