February 1 - The third vessel in Höegh Autoliners' New Horizon class of pure car and truck carriers (PCTC) has been named Höegh Tracer during a ceremony at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industries in China.
Höegh Tracer is the third in a series of six post-Panamax vessels under the New Horizon design that Höegh Autoliners will take delivery of within this year.
With a deck space of 71,400 sq m and carrying capacity of 8,500 ceu (car equivalent units), the vessel is one of the world's largest PCTCs, claims Höegh.
The vessels also have a higher door opening than Höegh Autoliners' current ships, enabling cargo measuring up to 6.5 m high and 12 m wide to be loaded. Extra ramp strength allows for cargo weighing up to 375 tonnes to be loaded over the stern ramp and 22 tonnes over the side ramp.
September 2015 saw the naming of the second vessel in the series, Höegh Trigger; while the first ship - Höegh Target - was named in June 2015.
Höegh Tracer will begin its maiden voyage from east Asia to Europe in March, before sailing from Europe back to east Asia via Africa and Oceania.
