September 30 - Seaspan Marine has added a new 16,000 dwt barge, Seaspan 252, to its fleet - the company's fourth new barge received over the past ten months.
Seaspan claims that the 114 m long by 27.5 m wide barge is the largest of its kind in Canada, and is able to carry the equivalent of 1,454 standard dump truck loads of limestone.
The new barge joins Seaspan 211 and 212, which were acquired in June, and Solid 66, which was added to the company fleet in late 2014.
Although designed primarily for bulk cargo shipments, the additional barges also increase Seaspan's capacity for the handling of project cargo. Seaspan 252 is scheduled to enter service in October.
