March 14 - The Fairmount Marine tug, Fairmount Alpine has performed escort services for a bulk carrier at the request of international salvage company, Smit Salvage.
The bulker suffered structural damages while in Brazil and Smit contracted Fairmount Marine, at first for stand-by services and, later, to be an escort during the transatlantic crossing of the bulk carrier from Brazil to Walvis Bay, Namibia.
This was Fairmount Alpine's third salvage operation in a row, as the tug had previously assisted in the salvage of a containership off the coast of Cuba, followed by assisting a salvage team in refloating a 30,000 dwt cargoship in the approach of Puerto Cortes, Honduras.
