October 5 - USA based manufacturer Crosby has been named global provider of Norway based Load Solutions' fibre lashing chain, Tycan.
Tycan is constructed entirely of DSM's material Dyneema - an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene synthetic fibre - rather than the traditional metal chain.
Crosby explained that the fibre chains have a number of advantages over steel chains, including their weight - eight times lighter than steel chains - and resistance to abrasions and cuts, as well as the safety and environmental benefits of the product. In addition, Tycan is waterproof and non-conductive, said the equipment specialist.
The chains will be available from Crosby in the first quarter of 2017.
