June 29 - Specialist over-dimensional cargo mover, ALE Heavylift has successfully moved and installed two exceptionally large cargoes: a chimney some 85 metres in height and a 55 metre long load-out jacket.
The chimney, weighing 185 tonnes was installed at Mejillones power plant, 65km from Antofagasta, Chile.
The manoeuvre was carried out using two 45m self-stabilising A-shaped gantries, each with a system comprising a 200-tonne capacity lifting unit and an auxiliary lifting unit for retaining work. Installation and positioning of the chimney took five hours.
Meanwhile, at Tampico in Mexico, ALE de México, has carried out the load-out of a jacket 25m high, 17m wide and 55m long. The operation, for Dragados' Akales project, was undertaken using two SPMTs with 22 axles plus decks. The distance moved was around 300m.
