ZPMC has delivered two remotely controlled ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes to Hutchison Ports' port of Felixstowe in the UK, onboard its heavy lift vessel, Zhen Hua 23.
The cranes, which originated in Shanghai, are the port's first two remotely controlled STS gantry cranes. Instead of being in a cab 50 m above the quay, the drivers will be located in a nearby operations centre, says the port.
In addition to the new cranes, the port is creating an additional 18,000 teu of container storage capacity; upgrading its terminal operating system; raising the height of ten STS gantry cranes on Trinity Terminal; and has eight additional yard cranes on order for delivery in early 2019.
