Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean (WW Ocean) has loaded a 275-tonne rotor at the Japanese port of Yokohama – the carrier's heaviest-ever Japanese shipment.
To load the rotor onto the ro-ro vessel Parsifal, detailed calculation by the WW Ocean breakbulk project team was required to determine how to safely secure a round rotor with no natural lashing points.
“After extensive pre-planning by the breakbulk project team, everything went like clockwork,” said Per Wallmark, breakbulk project manager, Asia at WW Ocean.
The rotor, bound for a power station in Europe, is now on the first stage of its journey: a 40-day trip to the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium. From there it will travel by barge to its final destination.
The company said it expects to see similar cargo requests in the future, particularly with power generation equipment in European and US power plants reaching the end of its product lifecycle.
