Australia-based Tutt Bryant Heavy Lift & Shift, a division of the Tutt Bryant Group, called on a fleet of Grove all-terrain cranes to work on the shutdown of the INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG processing plant near Darwin, Australia.

As part of the major turnaround project, Tutt Bryant originally deployed a fleet of eight Grove cranes: a 90-tonne GMK4090; two 100-tonne GMK4100Ls; one 95-tonne GMK5095; one 130-tonne GMK5130-2; one 150-tonne GMK5150L; and two 300-tonne GMK6300L cranes.

These cranes handled the first stage of the project during 2021.

Tutt Bryant then expanded its fleet with two other Grove units: a GMK6400, which has a lifting capacity of 400 tonnes and a 60 m-long boom extension; and the GMK5250XL-1, which has a lifting capacity of 250 tonnes and a 78.5 m boom extension.

These joined the on-site fleet for the second stage of the project during 2022.

Rob West, Tutt Bryant’s senior divisional manager, said: “We carefully selected this fleet to provide a good mix of capacities for maximum flexibility, with their class-leading boom lengths providing optimised access to all areas of the plant. The long-boom GMK5250XL-1 means it can take on work where we previously relied on larger cranes. We purchased the GMK6400 because we knew we could use it for some heavier tasks, but we also knew we’d get good utilisation from it in the future.”
