Höegh Autoliners has transported 18 light rail vehicles (LRV) from Spain to Mauritius on its ro-ro vessel Höegh Antwerp.

Danish freight forwarder DSV contracted Höegh to deliver the cargoes on behalf of manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF). The units were loaded at the port of Santander and shipped to Port Louis.

Upon arrival in Santander from CAF’s facilities in Beasain, the LRVs were transferred from truck trailers on to Höegh’s roll trailer.

Höegh’s head of sales in Spain, Iñaki Echeverria, explained: “The roll trailers are equipped with rails, and a specially designed Höegh bridge transfers the rail vehicles from the semi-trailers to the roll-trailer, allowing the rail vehicles to be directly rolled on and off the vessel.

“This eliminates the need for crane lifting in both load and discharge ports, reducing the risk of damage to the cargo and ensuring a safer and more efficient operation.”
