Mexico-based heavy haulage specialist Tradelossa is orchestrating the delivery of train carriages from China to the port of Manzanillo to support the Tren Maya project – 1,554-km intercity railway that traverses the Yucatán Peninsula.
Tradelossa has been working on the project since September 2023 and is set to continue its scope throughout 2024. Each carriage weighs 50 tonnes and requires the onward transport from Manzanillo to Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, where the units were adapted and remodelled.
In the latter half of 2023, Tradelossa then transported 12 carriages to Cancún, Quintana Roo. And, in February 2024, an additional four carriages were delivered to their final destination.
Tradelossa said that its trucks are en route back to Ciudad Sahagún to collect more units. Throughout 2024, the company expects to move 12 carriages, totalling 600 tonnes.
In a separate project, the heavy haulage specialist transported two gas turbines from the USA for two combined-cycle power plants in Mexico. Hauling the 216-tonne units from Yuma, Arizona, Tradelossa deployed its Goldhofer Faktor 5 girder bridge trailers – covering a distance of more than 150 km.
The first turbine was destined for the San Luis Rio Clorado plant, crossing into Mexico through the same municipality in the Mexican state of Sanora. The second unit had a longer journey: crossing the border through the US city of Calexico and transported to the Gonzales Ortega plant in Mexicali, Zacatecas.
