Schmidbauer has stationed one of its Liebherr MK 140 mobile cranes at the Fondazione Arena Di Verona amphitheatre in Italy to support the venue’s 2019 concert and opera season, which runs from June 13 to September 7.
On behalf of construction consultancy specialist, Niederstätter, the five-axle machine has been placed on a 1 m high platform in a narrow street behind the stage of the 2,000-year old arena. It is being used to change the stage set components.
One evening, according to Schmidbauer, the mobile crane lifted the columned doorways that formed the stage of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La Traviata before fitting the towers for the production of Il Trovatore.
Configured with 9 tons (8.16 tonnes) of ballast, the machine requires very little space, said Schmidbauer, making it a perfect fit for the narrow streets that surround the open-air theatre.
