Project forwarder Trans Global Projects (TGP) has transported mining equipment from South Africa to a gold mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The shipment included oversized dump trucks and excavators, totalling 402,009 kg (402 tonnes), and involved a challenging 1,750 km cross-continent road journey.
10 large units were first loaded on flatracks for the ocean voyage from Durban to Mombasa port in Kenya. From there, they were transported on lowbed trailers through Uganda to the mine site in the north-eastern region of the DRC.
With prior knowledge of the routing from Mombasa port, TGP secured the suitable modular lowbed trailers, part-dismantled excavators in order to meet road and bridge limitations and obtained the necessary value licenses and traffic permits.
