Sarens has transported a tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the construction of a new transit line in Poland, part of Warsaw Metro's rapid transit system project.
Sarens transported a 57-tonne cutting wheel, which measured 1.9 m x 6.3 m x 6.5 m, and a 65-tonne centre shield top, measuring 3.9 m x 4.3 m x 6.3 m, from the storage area to the work site at the C06 Ksiecia Janusza underground station.
Once on site, Sarens utilised an Liebherr LR 1350 crawler crane to build the TBM on the ground.
With the assembly completed, Sarens prepared to lower the 400-tonne TBM underground using a Terex C2800-1 crane.
The TBM will be used to construct the second metro line of the EUR209 million (USD257 million) expansion project, which is being led by Italy's Astaldi.
The project began in 2016 and is expected to last for 36 months.
