Sarens has lifted and transported an ancient solar boat for the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo on behalf of Besix-Orascom Joint Venture (BOJV).
The 20-tonne solar boat had to be lifted from the old Khufu Boat Museum, transported 10 km to the Grand Egyptian Museum, and installed in the new building. The boat was both archaeologically significant as well as fragile, Sarens said.
Sarens deployed 12 axle lines of Scheuerle K24 SPMTs, 12 axle lines of Scheuerle K25 SPMTs, and an 800-tonne capacity Demag CC4800.
BOJV built a steel cage around the 43 m-long boat, which brought the total weight to 100 tonnes. Sarens built a 52 m-long and 5.6 m-high steel bridge to allow the SPMTs to drive-in and park exactly underneath the boat.
Once the boat was transported to the museum, the CC4800 was deployed for the installation.
