Last year, Belgian heavy lift and transport engineering expert Sarens offloaded, transported and loaded out 54 jackets in Sløvågen, Norway.
The jackets weighed 1,450 tonnes each and were destined for the Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm in the outer Firth of Forth, Scotland. Manufactured in Asia, they were transported in lots to the Wergeland Base in Gulen, Norway, onboard heavy transport vessels operated by COSCO.
Upon arrival, Sarens handled the offloading operations and subsequent movements to the storage area for marshalling.
The Sarens engineering department commenced work in early 2023. Mobilisation of equipment began in February, including SPMTs, powerpacks, 12 ro-ro bridges, and the SCX 2800 crawler crane.
Addressing concerns about ground-bearing pressure on the quay, Sarens supplied load-spreading material to distribute the weight evenly on the ground. 104 axle lines of Kamag SPMTs were used for unloading and transporting the jackets.
They were then scheduled to depart Norway during the summer. For this scope of work, Sarens once again deployed SPMTs to transport the jackets from the storage area to the barge, where the company provided mooring and ballast equipment to support the load-out operations. This process continued until September 2023.
