Royal Cargo landed the contract to move 17 wind turbines for the Kalayaan 2 (KY2) wind farm project in the Philippines. Early works are now under way.
The 100.8 MW facility will feature 17 wind turbine generators, each boasting a 110 m hub height. Royal Cargo’s scope involves port handling, Customs clearance, storage and road modifications.
It will build bypasses along the route from the port up to the mountain site while securing the necessary permits to complete construction and transport. The project also requires Royal Cargo to organise barge transhipments.
“We are incredibly honoured to be a key partner in this groundbreaking project,” said Rodrigo “Toddy” de Roma, Royal Cargo’s senior vice president of projects and heavylift. Transport work is scheduled for next year.
Royal Cargo has invested EUR4 million (USD 4.4 million) in heavy transport equipment, including Goldhofer heavy-duty combination modules with six-axle lines, tower adapters (RA 2-110 and RA 3-100), goosenecks, vessel decks and blade transport devices (FTV 850). These units will be used for the KY2 project and across other initiatives.
In June, HLPFI reported the investment into Goldhofer heavy transport equipment to service the Philippines’ burgeoning renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. It has also been in action moving tunnel boring machines for the Metro Manila Subway project.
