The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) has handled the arrival of a 75-ton (68-tonne) double-decker sightseeing railcar for the Rocky Mountaineer rail line.

The rail car, which was shipped from Bremerhaven, Germany on a custom-built Mafi roll trailer, arrived at the port of Tacoma in Washington on board WW Ocean’s ro-ro vessel Tiger.

According to NWSA, during the offloading process there was limited clearance between the top of the rail car and the loading door.

Once the rail car was removed from the ship at Tacoma's East Blair One terminal, stevedores used a custom-made loading ramp to transfer it onto another railcar bound for Kamloops, British Columbia.

This was the first time the port offloaded a rail car of this size from a ro-ro vessel and is the first of nine rail cars arriving at the port over the next 18 months.
