UK-based heavy transport and marine specialist Osprey has supported the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in Somerset with the delivery of several heavy and oversized components, including two tunnel boring machines (TBM).
The TBM components were transported from Rotterdam to Avonmouth on board the general cargo vessel Schillig.
Once in the UK, Osprey was responsible for offloading the units using its 750-tonne capacity Liebherr LG 1750 mobile crane. The equipment was placed on to SPMTs owned and operated by Osprey.
The SPMTs then drove onto a barge ready to be towed closer to the project site in Somerset. Here, the Osprey team prepared to roll off the equipment taking into account tidal changes.
For the final road delivery to the Hinkley Point C project site, Osprey called upon its long-term partner Allelys for specialised transport equipment.
