MSC has transported a 390-tonne hydraulic hammer from Rotterdam to Singapore, the heaviest piece of cargo that the container shipping specialist has handled to date.
The hammer, measuring 25.7 m long x 4.55 m wide x 4.82 high, will be used to drill foundations into the seabed at an offshore wind energy project,
“The fact that our customer has entrusted us with such huge and time-sensitive cargo is testament to the confidence in MSC’s ability to deliver the load safely to Singapore,” said MSC’s global project cargo manager, Ben Collins. “We look forward to providing more solutions for even larger and heavier packages in the future.”
MSC’s team was responsible for every step, from carrying out an on-site pre-inspection to creating a detailed lifting and lashing plan. Due to the hammer’s weight, it had to be delivered to Rotterdam by barge. The component was lifted using floating cranes available.
