Specialist lifting equipment manufacturer Modulift, alongside UK-based firms RSG Rentals and Keltbray Lifting, has used a multi-point lifting beam to lift an eight-tonne section of an existing façade retention structure in central London, the UK.

Engineering and construction solutions provider Keltbray had just 48 hours to get the necessary equipment onsite, which was located in Mayfair. When lifting the precast section, there was just 2 cm of headroom to spare, so RSG Rentals was contacted for an immediate solution.

Following consultation between the two companies, Modulift’s MP-12 MultiPoint beam was selected due to its low headroom design of 630 mm from the bearing points of the top and bottom shackles. With a 12-tonne lifting capacity and a 6 m span, it was able to perform the lift safely and efficiently.

Carried out by Keltbray’s lifting team, additional equipment included load ring lifting points, bow shackles, tag lines and a counterbalanced lifting beam.

“This project shows the power of collaboration and the importance of having the right lifting solution available at the right time,” said Sarah Spivey, managing director of Modulift. “The MP-12 beam’s capabilities were instrumental in overcoming the significant headroom constraints.”

Earlier this year, Modulift spreader beams were used at Hinkley Point C, also in the UK.
