Militzer & Münch (M&M) has transported a 450-ton (408.2-tonne) transformer from the manufacturer's plant in Baoding, northern China to a construction site in Tianshui.
On behalf of a Chinese electricity utility, the transformer was carried on a 20-axle girder bridge, which enabled the weight of the oversized load to be distributed evenly.
M&M conducted a preliminary road survey prior to applying for authorisation to use the roads, gaining a permit from each of the two provinces - Hebei and Gansu - and two self-governing regions - Neimenggu and Ningxia.
The convoy covered a distance of 2,000 km in 15 days, accompanied by an escort vehicle for the whole journey, which largely took place at night.
