Mammoet Russia has delivered two heavy and oversized columns to the Gazprom Neft Moscow refinery modernisation project.
The vacuum column and the atmospheric distillation column will form part of the primary refining unit, says Mammoet, and will be used for producing Euro-5 emissions standard fuels and refined products.
Measuring more than 50 m in length and weighing up to 700 tons (635 tonnes), Mammoet transported the components from Petrozavodsk and Volgodonsk to the production site in several sections.
The vacuum column, which was 12 m in diameter, was transported in seven sections, each measuring 7 m; the atmospheric distillation column was transported in three sections, the largest of which measured 30 m in length.
For the road transport from both Petrozavodsk and Volgodonsk, Mammoet lifted and dismantled power lines to allow safe passage of the convoy.
Upon arrival at the jetties in both Russian cities, each column was loaded onto a barge for onward transportation to a berth 17 km from the final destination in Moscow. The columns were subsequently rolled off the barge and transported to the site using modular trailers.
