Heavy lift and transport engineering provider Mammoet completed its role the Sheybarah Island resort in Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with Red Sea Global (RSG).
Mammoet was tasked with the transportation and installation of 73 prefabricated villa orbs from Sharjah, UAE to Sheybarah Island in the Saudi Red Sea. Mammoet oversaw the complete factory-to-foundation process to integrate these structures into the landscape of Sheybarah Island.
The orbs, which have an off-centre of gravity, were lifted by a 650-tonne lift capacity Demag CC3800 crawler crane on Mammoet’s modified barge, ALE 250. The shallow draft of the barge, coupled with a retrofitted 300-tonne spud jacking system from partner Combifloat, ensured minimal disruption to the delicate marine environment during the installation process, said Mammoet.
Jack van den Brink, managing director for Mammoet Middle East and Africa, said: “We are proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing RSG’s vision to life. We remain committed to delivering excellence in every project, in this case contributing to the creation of the world’s most spectacular and sustainable hotels.”
Mammoet was awarded the contract to transport and install 73 villa pods in May 2022. To support the shipment of the villas from the UAE to Saudi Arabia, Mammoet teamed up with P&O Maritime Logistics.
