Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) has transported 31 units for the Johan Sverdrup oilfield project.
The biggest units measured 10.15 m 4.24 m x 7.48 m and weighed 70 tonnes. The total weighed of the shipment was 231.7 tonnes.
They were transported to Tananger, Norway from the Irlam Terminal in the UK on the vessel Wilson Goole.
The height of the cargo posed the biggest problem for the project, said K+N, as a telephone wire blocked the route to the port in Irlam. “With time ticking, a charter vessel on its way and project deadlines to meet, we had to get creative,” added K+N.
Rather than wait up to 28 days for the telephone service provider to come and temporarily remove the wire, K+N removed a section of the fence at the port, laid down gravel and metal plates on the pavements and grass verge in order to drive straight into the port and bypass the telephone wire.
