Jumbo Shipping’s heavy lift vessel Jumbo Jubilee has delivered the first of two new ship-to-shore cranes to the port of Greenock, Scotland, UK.
The 932-tonne structure was transported to the port from Cork in Ireland. Work to install the crane will begin imminently, with commissioning lined up for the end of 2024.
Peel Ports Clydeport has invested GBP25 million (USD31.8 million) on the two 72m-tall cranes. A naming competition for the cranes was launched in partnership with Inverclyde Council. Avaleigh Lang (10), of Lady Alice Primary in Greenock, chose Craner Swift as a nod to the US pop icon. Frances McFadden (10), who attends the town’s St Mary’s Primary School, opted for U-Crane Bolt as a tribute to Usain Bolt.
