JSL Global has delivered a Tesmec chain trencher from Jebel Ali via Dubai to Durban, South Africa.
The machine, which weighed 105 tonnes and measured 11.1 m x 4.4 m x 4.22 m, is used for digging and is suited for large-diameter pipelines work in firm, abrasive rock.
The piece was first shipped to Dubai and, while in transit, JSL Global located an operator that was headed for Durban. A ro-ro options was the desired solution due to much higher freight level for a breakbulk vessel ex Dubai to Africa. However, a number of ro-ro carriers declined the cargo due to the required ramp capacity and the heavy weight of the machine. Nevertheless, a suitable ship was located and the chain trencher was loaded and shipped onwards to South Africa.
JSL Global is member to the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC) for Qatar.
