JNC Logistics has been busy handling and installing cargoes that will be used in the construction of a proton therapy centre in China.

Cargoes handled include a 95-tonne cyclotron which measured 6.37 m x 4.26 m x 3.45 m; a pile cap which weighed 38 tonnes and measured 6.37 m x 3.47 m x 3.45 m; two gantry bodies, each weighing 55 tonnes and measuring 9.69 m x 3.5 m x 3.85 m. These items were shipped by ro-ro vessel from Antwerp to Shanghai. Moreover, 30 containers were shipped to the Chinese port from Rotterdam.

JNC Logistics was also responsible for organising the 1,500 km haul of the cargoes inland, to Xi’an. The company had to perform various civil works to allow the project to proceed, including ground reinforcements at the ro-ro terminal to handle the heaviest items Additionally, the final jobsite had a steep slope that needed to be levelled with excavators and assistive tools to allow the truck to get into position.

An 800-tonne lift capacity crawler crane was used to complete the final handling and positioning of the heavy cargoes.

Xi’an Proton Therapy Centre is the sixth medical institution in China to obtain the licence for proton radiation therapy system, which is being used towards cancer treatment efforts in Northwest China. The project started at the turn of 2024 and was scheduled to be complete at the end of 2024.
