J M Baxi Heavy completed the load-in of a 1,061-tonne bridge module at Krishnapatnam Port, India.
On April 10, J M Baxi Heavy loaded the bridge at Rohini yard, near Raigad, and set sail for the east coast of India. The bridge was intended for installation during May in the Krishna Godavari Basin as part of the Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) 98/2 project.
However, due to adverse weather conditions, the installation had to be postponed requiring the relocation of the bridge on land until the next available installation window in December.
J M Baxi Heavy reassessed the load-in feasibility, as the major loading structures used for the bridge were no longer available for load distribution, load-in, and stowage due to the monsoon. In response, engineering modifications were commenced a month in advance.
After consideration of costs and timelines, Krishnapatnam Port was selected for the load-in operation. The Triton 330 barge, on standby at Krishnapatnam anchorage since June 18, was permitted to berth on July 4, for modification and preparation.
The load-in operation was carried out on July 8. The barge was repositioned from a side-on to a stern-on configuration to facilitate the load-in. The operation commenced at 08:00 on July 9 and was completed by 10:55 the same day, using 64 SPMT axles and 30 ballast pumps to ensure alignment with the jetty and maintain stability. The bridge has been stowed at the 1J Container Terminal Yard.
