The 1,100 MW Inch Cape offshore wind farm’s two 545 mva transformers have arrived at the Smulders yard in Wallsend, UK.
The hardware made the overland and sea journey from Zagreb, Croatia, through Rotterdam, Netherlands. Having been delivered to the UK facility, the Siemens Energy team will assemble and test the units before they are installed aboard the offshore transformer module.
Each transformer weighs 476 tonnes and arrived on the coaster vessel H&S Wisdom. They were built by Koncar Power Transformers, with electrical fit-out by performed by Smulders, Sarens and Eastgate Engineering.
Siemens Energy is also in charge of designing and constructing the project’s onshore substation in Cockenzie, Scotland.
Last month, installation service provider Cadeler was contracted by Inch Cape Offshore to install 27 wind turbines, each rated at 15 MW, at the offshore wind energy project.
